National Packaging Covenant (NPC)

Back ground to the National Packaging Covenant (NPC)

The National Packaging Convent (NPC) is a voluntary, self-regulating agreement between industries in the packaging chain and all spheres of government. The agreement promotes shared responsibility through product stewardship throughout the packaging chain from raw material suppliers to waste collection agencies

Those industries in the packaging chain who do not become signatories of the NPC will be subject to the National Environmental Protection Measure for used packaging materials (NEPM). The NEPM is governments’ method of protecting NPC members from any competitive disadvantage arising from their Covenant commitments. It is also worthy of note that where companies have become signatories to the NPC and have not met their commitments then they will also become subject to the conditions of the NEPM.

Casella Wines and the NPC

Casella Wines became a signatory to the NPC on the 13th September 2001 and strongly endorse the principles and aims of the convent and the environmental code of practice for packaging

As part of our covenant commitments, Casella Wines is required to develop and submit an Action Plan detailing how we propose to implement our covenant commitments. In addition we are also required to keep records so that we can report each year on how we are progressing against your commitments
